SkyTools 3 question for galaxy brightness

#1

Post by omeek »

Hey all, I used to have ST3 and all the settings memorized but it's been so long there is one aspect I do not remember (and can't find my old notes).

When I do a DB query to get a list of galaxies I don't remember what I would put in for Magnitude. About all I remember related to that is that there is an equation for SBr (mag/arc sec^2) and I used to use that to come up with a decent magnitude to enter. If my question makes any sense, could someone refresh my memory for me to go about calculating a realistic mag/SBr to enter in my query? :)

SBr of 22 (arcmin) = 13.1 (arcsec) is a good cutoff. With 12" DOB under Bortle 4 skies most of galaxies with SBr 22 or brighter should be direct vision.
