WiFi extender or ??

#1

Post by JeffBevan »

I'm looking to improve my wifi range from my house to my observatory, about 200' total. Any suggestions on a workable approach. I've seen wifi extenders but they seem to be aimed at in house applications. :observatory:

I use a wifi extender for my TV streaming, it works okay.

I assume you are using a laptop or minicomputer in the obs and a desktop in your house?

Yes, essentially. I live high in the Mtns of Colorado, trying to outsmart the cold without building a warm room.

This was the extender I purchased. For the price it might be worth just trying it.

I found setting it next to the equipment you are trying to 'extend' to worked the best.

Have you thought about running a simple cat5 cable from your home out to your observatory? This way you get a direct connection to the computer in your observatory and you can get rid of the Wi-Fi part of the equation altogether. Cat5 cable length can be up to 300 ft without having to worry about signal strength.

Cheers,

JayTee I like that solution hadn't considered it.
