NASA takes Gateway off the critical path for 2024 lunar return

"WASHINGTON — A revised plan for returning astronauts to the surface of the moon by 2024 will no longer rely on the use of a lunar Gateway, although NASA’s human spaceflight head says the agency is still committed to eventually developing it."

Not sure if this is a good or bad thing. If it simply is schedule acceleration to comply with the political pressure, I'm not liking it. The plan should remain the plan.

It's all about our chief executive having bragging rights. After reading in depth the reasons for the space station it makes perfect sense to keep it. OTH if your chief objective is simply to be the guy who put humans back on the Moon (even for a limited time) then scrapping it also make sense.
