Data from ESA’s Gaia mission is re-writing the history of our galaxy, the Milky Way. What had traditionally been thought of as satellite galaxies to the Milky Way are now revealed to be mostly newcomers to our galactic environment.

This is an extremely interesting result of wide ranging astrophysical import. The number of bound satellite galaxies might not be so important to Dark Matter observers? I'll have to look at this more.

Edit: I'll be looking more at the astrophysics at viewtopic.php?f=74&t=21986&p=180660&sid ... ad#p180660
