NASA’s Perseverance Rover Begins the Hunt

#1

Post by Graeme1858 »

After testing a bristling array of instruments on its robotic arm, NASA’s latest Mars rover gets down to business: probing rocks and dust for evidence of past life.

The Curiosity Mars rover had managed to collect 32 Martian rock samples by using a drill attached to robotic arm. Pereverance rovere mission still keeps searching for signs of past life on the red planet by analyzing the chemical, mineral, physical and organic characteristics of the rocks.

We were watching a program last week presented by Prof. Brian Cox about the planets and space exploration. I can't remember what it was called now though

Anyway, he made a good point regarding space exploration that it is safer and easier to send rovers into space and to land on planets to get various samples rather than sending astronauts out there.

It makes sense, especially to get to the farthest reaches of space. Humans in space for years at a time is not really practical.

The Mars missions appear to be getting great results from the rover, which bears out what Brian Cox was saying.

That was The Planets: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/ ... he-planets

Excellent series, I watched a couple then missed some so I'm going to watch on the BBC iPlayer.
