Which explains their push to have their own space station. They can run long duration experiments there to help decide how to go about the Mars project.

China has launched three astronauts into orbit to begin occupation of the country's new space station.
The three men - Nie Haisheng, Liu Boming and Tang Hongbo - are to spend three months aboard the Tianhe module some 380km (236 miles) above the Earth.
It will be China's longest crewed space mission to date and the first in nearly five years.

Sounds pretty aggressive, but wish them all the best.

If the U.S. would have continued their space program with the same fervor after the Apollo missions, we would most likely had improved our technology to the point where a presence on Mars could have already been established. That being said, our presence in space and interplanetary would be accelerated if we pursued it together as a species and not as individual countries. If only!

But they can still send Elon Musk right? I mean the whole point of the exercise is to get him off social media!

Well, if he really wants to die on Mars as he has said, then he will be able to tweet about his final hours on the red planet.

Probably you are right. Despite those negative things we mentioned here about Chinese space exploration department, still, they are heading really fast towards new technology and new openings in space exploration.
