Starship flight attempt on schedule for Tuesday afternoon

#1

Post by smp »

From Ars Technica:
"The vehicle is ready, its paperwork is in order, and weather conditions should be reasonably good in south Texas Tuesday. All of this points toward SpaceX attempting to launch its newest Starship prototype—SN15—later this afternoon."

https://arstechnica.com/science/2021/05 ... afternoon/

Usually there is a message about a Starship launch on the SpaceX.com website - but not so far today. We'll see, I guess.

Looks like today's launch is scrubbed Stephen. I believe they just updated the article you posted.

Indeed... Looks like the report update was happening as I was posting. Here it is for anyone interested:

"Update, 12:15pm ET: It is not clear whether the decision was made due to a technical issue or concerns about winds at the launch site, but the Boca Chica Highway road closures for Tuesday have been canceled. This means there will be no Starship launch attempt.

Road closures remain in effect for Wednesday around SpaceX's South Texas launch site, but with similar weather conditions expected then, the attempt may slip into Thursday. SpaceX has not yet publicly cited a launch date."

So, maybe tomorrow, maybe Thursday? I guess we'll need to "stay tuned."

Looked like a very good landing. For some reason the SpaceX youtube livestream started around T-6:30, but was unlisted. They finally listed it at about T-3:30.

Thanks very much for the posts, Tim!

I'm glad we at least had the commentator to tell us what was going on with the two cameras frozen for a while there.

It looked like a good landing! Congratulations to SpaceX!
