Could Future Homes on the Moon and Mars Be Made of Fungi?
"Ultimately, the project envisions a future where human explorers can bring a compact habitat built out of a lightweight material with dormant fungi that will last on long journeys to places like Mars. Upon arrival, by unfolding that basic structure and simply adding water, the fungi will be able to grow around that framework into a fully functional human habitat – all while being safely contained within the habitat to avoid contaminating the Martian environment."
But would there be mushroom inside?

I am completely against overtly bringing life of any kind to any other planet - except the explorers, themselves.

Not to belittle the article, or the technology - but this just sounds like an old "Saturday Night Live" sketch to me.

Re: Could Future Homes on the Moon and Mars Be Made of Fungi?
Even if the reported ice deposits in its polar craters turn out to be exploitable, water on the moon will still not be plentiful by any stretch. Using a small amount of imported binder to convert the ubiquitous regolith into a suitable building material seems like a better bet for general construction. Or one might be able to use the abundant sunlight to simply fuse the loose material into functional shapes, a simple adaptation of 3D printing technology.
Any metaphor will tear if stretched over too much reality.

Sure, but our bodies are teaming with non-human microscopic life, including bacteria, fungi, etc. If we go, they go.
