Seems we are currently seeing a bit of a flurry of SNe activity in the spring skies. In addition to SN 2020hvf in
NGC 3643 (Leo) that I mentioned in the below linked thread and is currently listed at mag 12.7
viewtopic.php?f=77&t=9579
we now have a couple more new ones that appear to be coming along nicely as well. Those are:
SN 2020jfo a Type II in
Messier 61 (Virgo) that is currently listed at mag 14.5
SN 2020hvp a Type Ib in
NGC 6118 (Serpens) that is currently listed at mag 14.6
In addition, we have the following that I have already observed on 15 April:
SN 2020ftl a Type Ia in
NGC 4277 (Virgo) currently listed at mag 13.8
SN 2020fqv a Type IIb in
NGC 4568 (Virgo) currently listed at mag 15.2
As you notice there are three that are part of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster, M61,
NGC 4277 and
NGC 4568.
NGC 3643 is a member of the Virgo Supercluster. Given the sheer volume of galaxies within these groups, its not terribly surprising that we might see multiples within their number. I plan to target SNe 2020jfo, 2020hvp and 2020hvf my next time at the dark site - hopefully this coming week.
