Re: Western Slope Skies - Astronomy in Indigenous North American Cultures
Interesting article, interesting to see the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia as one giant constellation. Clearly they are as they circle Polaris together in circumpolar view but the Greco/Roman traditions we (I) grew up with don't link them so directly.

Re: Western Slope Skies - Astronomy in Indigenous North American Cultures
Hi Clinton. A very interesting article on astronomy by the native American cultures. Here is one more, with legends from native American tribes, and includes the Cherokee explanation of why most of us can only see 6 stars instead 7 stars with the naked eye in the Pleiades (The Seven Sisters):

Thanks for your fascinating link Clinton, and the best of regards.

Re: Western Slope Skies - Astronomy in Indigenous North American Cultures
Great stuff, and all cultures had links to the sky, forming their own constellations and lore, as well as practical uses of their acquired knowledge. After all, observing the world and universe around them was simply a part of every day life. They weren't distracted by all the stuff we have today. Their understanding of all that surrounds them was integral to life itself.
