Virgo I Galaxy Cluster PDF

#1

Post by kt4hx »

I ran across this pdf document on another site that the author (Scott Harrington) posted on his google drive for open access. It contains 129 galaxies listed in two tables. The first one is sorted by magnitude (based on the Uranometria Deep-Sky Field Guide) and the other lists the same galaxies sorted by Right Ascension. I thought some here might find it interesting and/or useful as a check list of the brightest galaxies in the Virgo Cluster when they tackle the cluster during the spring and early summer. There are no charts, simply a list of galaxies with basic data. I downloaded it to add to my resources. Good luck. :)

Thanks Alan, this should come in handy for the next few month's imaging, provided the clouds clear.

Thank you folks. I hope that you can put it to good use. This document gives one a good starting point once they have done the Messier galaxies in the field. I have not specifically undertaken a deep study of the cluster with the 17.5 inch from our dark site house as of yet. Though, I have skirted around within it from time to time. I would need several nights to really get into its contents because there are so many dimmer members floating around between the more obvious galaxies in the field. This is one of the few areas of the sky where one will often find themselves galaxy hopping rather than star hopping as the galaxies often outnumber the stars in the views.
