Mag. 1.6, about as bright as Regulus, and brightening at about 0.1 per day.

OK, caught sight of the comet this morning at 03:30 as it rose over the Saddle mountains to my NE. About 3 degrees of tail noted in the just breaking dawn. Nucleus star like and orange due to the low elevation and about second magnitude. Coma and tail vaporous and nearly colorless and featureless. Used my small 7x20 Nikon travel binos, didn't seem that the 11x70 would add anything as the sky was as bright as the tail anyway. Will have to setup a camera in a few days to get some pics. Naked eye visible, but the average sky glancer would probably not see it.

Not a 'Great Comet', but a nice comet none the less.

Went out about 0315 today until about 0430. Checked for the comet with 10x50s off and on while doing lunar with my Mak. Nothing.

Capella was quite visible but the comet is apparently still lost in the Chicago LP muck to the east of me.

Hopefully some clear skies coming... I have heard that before though. Never seen a bright comet 💫
Cheers,

Tony.

After making plans for a pre-dawn drive out to the corn fields for an unobstructed eastern horizon, I caught it from the window of my second floor loft.

Big and bright even though it was getting close to dawn. Last comet I saw that was that bright was Kehoutek IIRC back in middle or high school.

If the weather holds, I might still drive out tomorrow for an earlier look.
