ISS passing through Orion.

#1

Post by KingClinton »

Skysafari notified me of a ISS pass.
I duly stepped out and was in for a pleasant view and surprise.

From my view the ISS rose up from the SW and slowly crept across the sky toward the NW.
What really stood out for me was when the ISS appeared to pass directly in front of Beta Orionis (Rigel) and then a few seconds later it seemed to cross in front of Zeta Orionis (Alnitak).
Checking Skysafari afterwards I see it was close but no cigar, the ISS missed each by less than a whisker!
My old eyes and bifocals saw differently and I'm entitled to my own views!

Some Images from Skysafari to illustrate.

Eyeballs, binoculars, sketch box, Scopes n stuff.
Some people don't understand why I love astronomy so much, I cannot understand why they do not!

Nice deal Clinton on both view; Orion and the ISS! Orion is gone for me, but I thought to check Clear Outside for the first time in a bit, and it would seem it's going to clear up with three views of the ISS! Of course, all this happens after midnight...

Thanks for the post, hope you and yours are good :D

All the best,
Mark

Actually Tom, I have my orange C80 set up for just that task! :D
For sure I'm taking a cat-nap after dinner.... I'll at least catch Jupiter and Saturn around 4AM
