Let's Give Mars a Magnetic Field.
Mars needs a magnetic field. Why not give it one?
See: https://futurism.com/scientists-propose ... etic-field
But I suspect that NASA's team stole this rather-challenging/likely-impractical idea (albeit, about Earth, not Mars) from reading The Sky Searchers!
See: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=16634
Well, you're welcome, NASA. Glad I could help.

Re: Let's Give Mars a Magnetic Field.
Well, it is impractical. It's an interesting research topic but don't hold your breath.
Apart from the difficulties of getting a magnetic field installed, there's installing the atmosphere.
I vote to make Earth habitable first if we're going to spend real money.

It certainly makes for a great thought experiment.
It just doesn't seem practical, that's a lot of electricity!

You want an atmosphere too? One step at a time! You can do your breathing later... perhaps in another week?notFritzArgelander wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 8:37 pm Well, it is impractical. It's an interesting research topic but don't hold your breath.

Reminds me of a scene from Futurama:
..Fry: Now that you mention it, I do have trouble breathing underwater sometimes. I'll take the gills.
..Organ Salesman: Yes, gills. Then, uh, you don't need lungs anymore, is right?
..Fry: Can't imagine why I would.
..Organ Salesman: Lie down on table. I take lungs now, gills come next week.
Heh.

This is why I have a rep for being a "difficult patient". I need to be fully informed and gills coming next week would not be acceptable.AntennaGuy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 9:46 pmYou want an atmosphere too? One step at a time!
