A Special Day To Use My 16x80 ED Binoculars
Was at my dark site yesterday evening. My first observation was Venus. It was soon to set behind some trees. Did not look good perhaps due to murk in the low atmosphere. Because I was rushing this observation, I did not use my yellow filter #8. I should have tried my 4 inch mask as well. Any how on the 7th of this month Venus will be 3.9 degrees away from the Moon. Perfect for my 16x80 ED 4.0 degree wide and my 7x50 5.7 degree wide binoculars. Weather reports for the 7th look good. Left click the image

A very photogenic target!
Here's hoping for clear skies on Saturday night. Looks like a back bedroom window target for me.
Regards
Graeme

Re: A Special Day To Use My 16x80 ED Binoculars
The clouds prevented me from enjoying the conjunction yesterday evening. I now have the Meade LX70 120mm f/ 8 cooling down for a 6:00pm observation of Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn. I will be using a yellow filter #8 and a 80mm aperture mask for Venus. I think the yellow #8 filter by itself will give me the best view of Venus.

Tried the mask by itself. I then tried the yellow #8, Moon, and light pollution filters with and without the mask. The roughly cut aperture mask with the Moon filter hit the spot at 125 magnification using my zoom lens. Knowing that there may be some kinds of life forms on the planet made the observation that much more enjoyable. I then moved on to the Moon, Saturn and Jupiter.
