You would think such a bright strike would leave a mark. With my 10" better than most dob, there was nothing to see. The photos at ALPO Japan Latest there mite be a faint smudge where it hit.

The 1994 Shoemaker-Levy comet string really left a mark. I was watching intently with the same 10" scope looking for a flash of light, but saw nothing. The pieces hit just over Jupiter's horizon. There was speculation that the moon's would brighten up from the impact flash, which must have been considerable seeing the marks. Don't remember any reports of that happening.
Arizona- where the sky's are not cloudy all night.

Triple lensed fracs are so yummy when looking at planets.
