This will be a first time for me. Just wondering if the moon will be to bright. Right click the images. Clear skies.

Enjoy the views, with the lunar illumination the Moon will probably be over powering Mars viewing.

Aye, good old moonshine - showing it can be as strong as the Sun and obscure the things you want to see :D

I see the stage is set for the weekend, given the sky this morning at 5!

Its an easy mistake to make, especially if it's your first time.
As it's the Sun's light reflection on the moon we'll forgive you
Hope the sky is clear and you can enjoy the view. Please feel free to come here and ask any questions at any time, you'll find us a friendly crowd.

Problem with Stellarium is - it doesn't factor in any clouds. I got a glimpse of Mars & Moon last night on Sky Cam - they're far enough apart.
Perhaps tonight might be better - but then the moon will definitely be too bright.

I just have one issue re this, I am finally going to get a clear night yay! But, not only do we have a substantial waning moon, Mars also has timed itself to creep into the arms of dear luna just as the clouds abate. Hmmm, I need friends in higher places. :D
Cheers,

Tony.

Nailed the two real good with my 7x50 binoculars. My 1200mm f/8 refractor with a GSO Superview 30mm did a very good job also. The brightness of the moon was not an issue. Looking at Andromeda my 20x80 binoculars showed an image just as bright as my 6" refractor at 40 magnification. Binoculars really rock. My 20x80 cheapo binoculars actually have an internal aperture of 72mm. Right click the image.

Eyeballed it at 3:45Z this morning - Mars was still a little finger distant from the Moon - there was a veil of high cloud which helped mitigate the brightness of the Moon. Venus was very bright, though, suggesting a cloud edge to the north.

Too bright, though, on my sky cam to separate the two - at 25 seconds exposure, hardly surprising!

Probably will not be able to see it, haze and smoke are the culprits...
