Is anyone heading out to see these? I've never seen them and my plan was to go out when it is most active, looks like that isn't happening

I have been trying to observe the Perseid peak off and on for over 50 years. Of all the annual showers, I have had the least success with this one. I'll probably be giving it another shot this year weather permitting.

Pthth. Two years ago I drove for two hours one way to get up to 8000 ft. altitude and laid out in a sleeping bag and only saw five mediocre streaks. Phooey. Same with several other showers. Now I go to bed and look at the photos on the web later.

A Perseid is a treat when you can get to see one. We had a gap in the clouds a couple of years ago and I saw a few bright ones. But it looks like I'll be joining you this year!

Been out the last two nights and have only seen two erratics. Very humid even though no actual clouds. With all this moisture, the light pollution is so bad I can't see all of Cassiopea. Bad weather forecast for the night of 11/12 onward so I guess I'm done for the week.

The forecast has changed here. In the absence of a functioning telescope mount, I think I'll drag out the garden lounger, put a lens on the 600D, put them on a tripod (the camera and lens, not the lounger) and see what we get.

We are in another mini-heatwave - temps 85-90+ all day, and still warmer and humid in the evenings - making observing difficult, and cloudy too. Doubt we will get to see them here :(

I saw 3 good ones and a few minor ones last night. Hopefully I caught some on camera! The camera was pointing at the Summer Triangle for an hour then I moved it to Cassiopeia, Perseus, Andromeda for a couple of hours. Not hopeful about image quality, the 600D's sensor was operating at 36C!

Clouds, clouds and more clouds all night long - following hot and humid (but clear) days. Another Perseid bust for me.

I went out about 0330 today and saw none, but I was using a scope and not really looking for meteors. I plan on trying tonight - just need to decide if I want to drive out to a dark site somewhere. I fear my club's site will be too crowded for my tastes.

The last time I saw a "good" Perseid show was decades ago. :o

FOG FOG FOG. So no dice. I did have a superb view of the shower back around 2010 when I was camping at Yellowstone during August. Since then I have seen only 1 or 2 meteors in that time.

So... five hours to dark and this gunk is 200 miles away. Might be reevaluating my evening observing plans...

When I saw the short break in the clouds around midnight, I went out on a whim. Over about 80 minutes I saw several modest meteors, two fireflies, one bat, and a raccoon. I'm calling that a win.

I sat out on the back deck about 11:30PM last night (before the clouds rolled in) and caught three meteors in about a 10 minute period. The first was bright and passed by Mars headed south-southeast. The second was also bright and rolled by Altair and Aquila going southwest. Now I had to wait for a third to validate the radiant point, and finally a dimmer streak passed to the east of Cygnus headed almost directly south. There, I've done my Perseid duty for the year!

Out of 225 captures, this was the only one with a meteor in it!

Image 125, 30 seconds at 1600 iso, 22:41, 11/08/20. Canon 600D on a tripod, 18mm-50mm lens at 18mm f10.
