Talking about comets and dark skies.

I was in Australia a few years ago when Comet McNaught was in the skies. I saw it in Sydney, the tail was quite short in Sydney, stretching from the coma about 15 degrees upwards in altitude (if that's the way to describe it).

We then went to Uluru, and had "dinner in the desert with an astronomer" At Uluru, it stretched almost from horizon to about 65 degrees upwards, and even when the coma had gone below the horizon, the tail could still be seen.

Mind blowing and just shows the difference in dark skies.

I'll be down the caravan this weekend. Here's my NE view across the Thames estuary looking out over the North Sea:

Hopefully the clouds will be gone by then!
