Moments of overwhelming happiness

I just have to share this here. My daughter is now 16 months. She is a lot of fun and makes me really happy. Given that I do this as a hobby, I have naturally pointed at the sky a couple of times, and I did show her the moon, whenever it was up - she's a very curious child and notices things easily. She learned to look for it when we're out, points and says "moo'". The other day, when I was picking her up from daycare, her teachers called out to me, to tell me that they were blown away by her proving them wrong: they were out and she kept pointing and saying moon, and they said no, you can't see the moon, and she insisted and almost threw a tantrum, and then they looked again and saw that indeed, the moon was visible between tree branches! I can't describe how happy this made me, and figured that this crowd might understand :)
That is all. Clear skies, and many "Moo'" sightings to all.

What a nice story! Hope the teachers learned a lesson. All of us teachers need to remember that we don't know it all... and we can learn something from our students.

Enjoy these special days with your little girl!

!It’s wonderful having a youngster around and 16 months is a really fun stage.
I know you have been very busy with your new addition to your family and will be for quite awhile. Its a very special time and before you know it, they will be grown.

Thanks for sharing your experience here.

Thanks,
Jim

A good story rocdoc, what telescope are you getting her for her birthday? :)

Nice deal rocdoc, good for her and you! That's impressive at 16 months as well :D What a great story; having a daughter of my own, I can get that in so many ways! She's 14 now, but still joins Dad every now and again for a session. Probably more talking than viewing, but something about a few telescopes in the back yard just invites those moments of quality discussion and time, as it's always that time to chill when those are out.

In grade 4 her class was asked by the teacher to paint on a sheet of 2" X 2" piece of paper a notable event in history. That painting of the Apollo 11 moon landing is still on my wall in the basement, where everything I treasure is kept.

You're raising her right, buddy :D I hope you too will have a few things to hang on your wall as well; it'll happen soon enough!

All the best and thanks for making my day with that,

Thank you Rocdoc for sharing your joy.
I can only just remember my children at that age.

It is a fine time in life. 😊

Very nice! You'll have to get your young one to tell the teachers about day time star observing too haha, they probably won't believe her!

Awesome story!!! As someone with a 7 and a half month old this is very touching. I went looking through my photos for a picture of her room, posted below, and your story and seeing her as a newborn got me all emotional :)

Our daughter's name is Celeste. My wife suggested it because of my love for this amazing hobby we're all a part of! On her wall is We Love You To The Moon And Back. She has a light up 3D printed Moon that is incredibly detailed. She has space books and outfits. As you said, so much fun!!!

Thanks for sharing

What a great story. I hope your daughter gets increasingly engaged with the night sky - a budding astronomer in the making! Mine are 22 and 20 at the moment but both still have a general interest in the night sky - it's kind of something that never fades once the spark is kindled.
