Even in some of the projects astronomers are working on today, I see work by amateur astronomers (like us?) mentioned among those doing the work. I don't know how many of the sciences still have room for amateurs doing some of the heavy lifting. Maybe Wilkin's map is reminder that astronomy is a science that still has significant amateur influence.
