Re: no human migration outside solar system
Maybe we could learn how to fold space, like they did in the novel Dune.

Re: no human migration outside solar system
Not exactly a surprising statement given the distances involved. Even if we did take off we would probably mutate into non-humans during the million or so years of travel. So, in effect humans would not inhabit another planet.

I'm a fan of the Dune novels. But folding space has an amazingly high energy cost. Dune Navigators are essentially using the spice melange to perform magic.Refractordude wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2019 8:10 pm Maybe we could learn how to fold space, like they did in the novel Dune.

I see where he is going with this. He is more concern about humans trashing our own planet on a false hope that we can move to the next one.

Re: no human migration outside solar system
That spice was something special. I also read a book called The Void Captain's Tale by Norman Spinrad which had a quite interesting way of beating the speed of light.

One missing ingredient in the Dune series is "what were they doing before they found spice on Arrakis?"Refractordude wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2019 11:50 pmforgot about that spicenotFritzArgelander wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2019 8:26 pmI'm a fan of the Dune novels.
