ugh...
seem to remember reports of far higher 'dust' (particles?) in nearby interstellar space than expected. wonder if that ties into this somehow? Or maybe I'm not fully awake yet...

maybe. unfortunately i don't think the voyager probes are instrumented to check this. also they aren't there yet. they are still in the Kuiper belt which counts as interstellar space by some definitions.
