Indeed we did but I forget the context maybe? Was it Hume’s contention that causation was merely correlation plus our assumption that it was meaningful?

Indeed, they are. :) I was particularly amused by the per capita cheese consumption and deaths by tangled bedsheets.

spurious or no, I find it slightly alarming that so many of the trends are upward/

that said, I can also see (very) slight tangential links between a few of the graphed items -

total revenue generated by arcades matched against computer science doctorates...computer games are big business, hence a demand for people who know computers.

per capita consumption of mozzarella cheese matched against civil engineering doctorates awarded. Mozzarella cheese is a principle pizza topping - and college kids (among others) count pizza as a primary food group. (or they did)

per capita consumption of chicken matched against total US oil imports - perhaps corresponding to drive thru business at certain fast food joints?

Japanese passenger cars sold in US matched against suicide by crashing of motor vehicle - to me this (depressingly) makes sense in a sort of raw abundance way.
