Mixed brand Masuyama/Astroplans Binoculars: Nikon Aculon 10x50, Celestron 15x70, Baader Maxbright. Mounts: Star Seeker IV, Vixen Porta II, Celestron CG5

The first thing that came to my mind was modulus.

It's, by the way, odd, that so many people talk about modulus operator ("%") in C programming language, when the specification talks about reminder (which it actually is). You can see the difference, if you use negative numbers.

Too bad, that many of the "mathematical facts" are usually learned as a mantra - without actually understanding them.
And even that would be fine, if those "Dunning-Kruger"-people didn't start making noise.
(Sorry, didn't know how to put that last one in English. Self-confidence by ignorance?)

We are all the heroes of our own narrative. It's often weirdly, sadly amusing how folks look down on illiteracy but are perfectly content being innumerate.

I understood your meaning so your English was fine. A more idiomatic way to put it is "unjustified self confidence". Self-arrogance is not a better usage.
