two billion year old nuclear reactor

...at least according to this sketchy article...

...but then again Fritz needs a good laugh.

https://factleaks.net/updates-on-gabons ... wla5Nv9UPo
Physicists from several countries gathered in Gabon to investigate what was going on at the Oklo mine, and discovered a natural-looking nuclear reactor underground.

The reactor began 2 billion years ago and has been in operation for 500,000 years, according to physicists. These findings were made public at an International Atomic Energy Agency conference.
hmmm...perhaps it was built as a lark by the Great Old Ones? :)

(video starts to repeat at about 6.5 minutes)

(word of caution, couple of the adds with this bit of click bait are on the racy side)

It's a funny video but natural causes are completely adequate. At the time of discovery ~5 decades ago there was an excellent treatment in Scientific American.

Here's a current summary "sans woo-woo". ;) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_n ... on_reactor
