Agreed. Or practically ANY means of deflection. But this work was done a LLNL which has a long history of over advocating nuclear solutions. It's part of the legacy of Edward Teller. In addition to digging earthly harbors with nukes and deflecting asteroids he supported petroleum extraction with same.
