The detail about the CMOS Camera was interesting / odd...

I guess the Engineers at JPL need to get out to a few more Star Parties, and see what ZWO and the like are doing!!

Really? I don't think that any ground based amateur instrument would be of interest to a JPL engineer except for the few that also do AP as a hobby. The operating environments are quite different including the thermal, vibration, and radiation environments.

So for instance CMOS devices are usually poor at radiation resistance so CCD devices are preferred. I find it surprising and innovative that they got a CMOS device design sufficiently radiation hardened to work in a space environment. I wonder what innovations were made in the process.
