To indicate proper Greek pronunciation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boötes
Short version: it's not pronounced bootease, but rather boo-uh-tease.

I haven't seen a letter 'ö' in Greek alphabet (nor the other letters used). :joking:notFritzArgelander wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 10:32 pmIt's Greek for all of us.turboscrew wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 10:13 pm Confusing for a Finn, and probably for Swedish and German people too...

Re: A hot and dry Jupiter: SPIRou reveals the atmosphere of the exoplanet Tau Boötis b
It isn't a separate letter. It is a representation of a diaresis to show that in the Latin transliteration of the Greek original, the two o's are pronounced separately. The Greek original would have been Βοώτης except that as pointed out in another thread ancient Greek was written in all upper case with no diacritic markings.turboscrew wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 11:46 pmI haven't seen a letter 'ö' in Greek alphabet (nor the other letters used).
