WILL THIS SET UP DO

Post by p1taylor »

Hi All,
After your comments will this do as I need, Lunt LS60THa/CPT OTA do I need a B1200 Blocking Filter or a B600 and a Lunt PCUSB Pressure Tuner Controller, if I had a 50 will it get all the Sun and Prominences on out side. set up will only be used for imaging.

B600 is better for visible, 1200 for imaging. You don't need a PCUSB controller, many don't (I do, but then I'm remote observing).

Someone else will have to comment on the 50 - I have the 60 and as I only image, that depends on the camera.

Hi Geoff,
Thanks for the info I only image and as you remote, CCD will be a SX Loadstar or a SXH9C will I have to convert it to mono or will be ok as it is.

This'll give you some ideas - chose Sun and work from there ....

A mono camera is best as a colour would waste a ton of pixels. Maybe Lowjiber ( John ) can chime in, I know he had a 50.

Quite right. Check this out - in an RGB sensor, for Solar you are basically only using the R part:

That's actually something I'd forgotten - the dominance of the Green pixels over the other two - makes you wonder why it wasn't called the Grb grid to emphasise that point.

Incidentally, is there an astronomical camera that has other wavebands built in, not thinking of IR or UV, - though I'd guess at a high price!

If you're going to image, get the 60 as the 50 has some serious focuser issues.

I know a lot of good solar imagers, but not one that uses a color cam.:) I use the ASI174MM-cooled cams (I have two.).

Many feel intimidated by adding color to a monochrome image and many features are interesting in monochrome... we all do it from time-to-time. However, adding color is the last thing one does during solar image processing and it's easy & fast.

For example, here's an image that Keith (Tillibobs) shot last week...

Here it is after I added color in less than five minutes...

BTW: Keith taught me how to do that.:)

A big AMEN to that! I remember all the discussion... And then some folks having to spend even more $$$ on a replacement focuser.

You obviously don't know John's problem Geoff, John is colour blind and asks his Mrs what it looks like.

When I first started solar imaging getting the color "right" was impossible by myself. I managed, with a lot of help from Keith, to get an image colored. However, I had no clue about what color the rest of the world saw... once posting a decent disk that was pink. I took a lot of razzing over that one.

The engineer in me told me to turn everything into numbers. I sat down with my wife, Dana, and developed a Color Balance scheme that would allow me to simply throw color on an image via an "action" in Photoshop. Here it is... I haven't changed it in several years.:)

Hi All, thanks very much for all the help I will get a set up as you suggest, the other thing I need is a SonyICX285AL Semiconductor to get my H9C CCD to mono dos any body if I can get one changing it is simple.

I have a DMK21 AND A DMK51 that I don't use since I had to get a new laptop ( they don't like USB3 but were fine on USB2 ) .They are both mono. They'll be going on UK Astro Buy and Sell in a couple of weeks.
