Mostly cloudy here and 73 degrees. Big cold front to come through in the afternoon.

Transit should be occurring for me at about 9-10 a.m. c.d.t.

I dug out the Baader solar film (haven’t used it since the eclipse in 2017). I’ll be ready just in case i get a break.

Thanks,
Jim

Graeme1858 wrote: Thu Nov 07, 2019 1:59 pm Just to double check, so as not to miss first contact, assuming no clouds on the 11th, (76% cloudy days since 2000 on this date!) Mercury moves East to West across the face of the Sun, from about 8 o'clock to about 2 o'clock. So when I point my telescope at it with a camera attached and no star diagonal, do I need to be looking at the apparent 2 o'clock position to observe first contact to allow for the inverted image?

My question has become lost in the pessimism of potential precipitation. The answer came to me though, I'll set up with the last alignment and slew to Mercury, not the Sun. Then I'll be on the right side of the Sun!

I've got broken cloud with decreasing chance of rain, so looks like half a chance!

Regards

Graeme

Musically relevant, perhaps.

Cloudy all morning, just a glimpse of something bright towards the south. Showers or drizzle....

I caught an image through high clouds which shows a very fuzzy Mercury spot on the solar disk. Forecast is for mostly overcast, but I will be carrying the Canon around just in case I get some better conditions at some point.

I got maybe 2 shots of a minute each through thickish cloud, but the sun is now too low in the sky - even if the clouds parted suddenly.
