Gain setting for Sharpcap 3.0 with ASI174

#1

Post by Ben Cartwright SASS »

Up until now I have always left my gain at 150 out of 300, 50%, with the ASI174mm. But was wondering if that is giving the best results.

3.0 has gamma and I will move that to the right towards or to 100% for proms and to the left towards or at 1 for the surface, and then I adjust the exposure to get the exposure or density I want. I often use an exposure of 0.010-0.012 for the surface and 0.030 or so for the proms, (is that 10-12 milliseconds and 30 milliseconds ??)

I get good results but was wondering what other people do, I was reading where you should have gain set as low as possible but when I do that the exposure really increases
I might not always be right but I am never wrong, once I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken...
