Hopefully you will recover swiftly. A friend had bursitis in the shoulders very badly but he recovered well. I hope it gets well and truly put behind you.

John, we are praying for you! I hobble with a cane and cannot stand more than 5-10 minutes due to severe arthritis in my knees so I know how it hurts. Yours sounds much worse.

Kind of a rookie question. I normally use my Lunt 102ED achro for solar with my Quark and ASI174mm either the cooled version (heavy) or the uncooled. It has a long dovetail bar on it to attach to the mount so when I need to balance in DEC it simply loosen the knobs on the mounts saddle and slide it to get balance when the loads change.
However my Skywatcher ED120 has a very short bar on the bottom so I have been loosening the rings that hold the tube and slide the tube back and forth.
Which do people feel is the better way or is it a Coke Pepsi sort of thing?

notice that on the 120 there is a 11" dovetail on top and a 6 or 7" on the bottom that came with it, maybe I should just switch them

I'm not a fan of long bars on narrower rings as the rings need to be centered on the mount for moment and flex.

Opening the rings and sliding the tube is OK as long as rings have plenty of threads connected and can still hold the weight, of high quality and properly felted to avoid scratching and problems under a load.

Alternatives would be a strapped on ankle weight around the tube if the velcro is long enough or a Tele Vue 2/1.25 Equalizer that can attempt to equal the change out.

Here's a thought.
Why are there hexagons on the moon? Like Saturn.
Why did I think I saw them in Mg Quark visually a few months ago?

I was told by Professor Shultz the hexagons were talked about back during the making of the book but they are illusions.

The hexes on the golf balls are for aerodynamics, it goes further than a smooth ball and you can adjust the flight based on the numbers and shapes

I think we are hard wired to see patterns and shapes.
I see wine bottles everywhere, it is quite distracting at times.

:check: :check: :check: :check: :check: :check:

for example, you see ticks right? I see wine hitting the bottom of the transparent glass.

A low pressure sphere surrounding more spheres creates a hexagon maybe? Dark matter??

I think I see hexagons all over the place on the moon...

Professor Schultz is a class act and was amazing to be able to find and send him an email in mere minutes. Then to get a response from him in less than 48 hrs.

How long would that take in 1990?

Will keep an eye on the sun with the Quarks especially Mg for those hexagons. No idea what they were. I sent the Mg Quark back even to check it.

I have a Skywatcher Evostar 120 I replaced the stock focuser with a GSO linear bearing one, I have GSO's on two other scopes and they work ok but on the 120 when I put a heavy load on it and the scope is at a high angle it slips. I have cleaned it and adjusted it several times. I have it set so that it can handle the Quark and the 174 cool but it is very rough with severe backlash in the 10-1 wheel, you have to keep jogging the mini-wheel and letting it bounce back and sometimes it gets focus. The main knobs take a fair bit of force to turn and are just plain rough. If I don't have it that bad it won't move the load. even then it helps to use two hands, one for the knobs and one to lift the focuser.

I was thinking of a Moonlight CFL but they don't sell the manual version any more only with the motor and controller, so it runs about $900. I think for that price I can get a feather touch, or at least the manual feather touch by Starlight.

I tend to use my Lunt ED102 most of the time, partly due to the focuser on the 120 but also due to always having very unstable air.

What do you guys have and what do you recommend?

UPDATE: I went out to my scope and backed the 4 screws off and then put them in so they just hold the focus wheel housing on and then tightened the tension knob until it moved the load and it was smoother, but up to the Lunt but better.
I would work with the SW focuser but the guy who bought my SW Evostar 100 is not happy with its focuser and may want to return the scope or swap focusers with me AFTER A MONTH, personally once you buy it and also play around with the focuser and have it for a month you should own it, but I always worry about peoples feelings...
I might not always be right but I am never wrong, once I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken...
