Quark Chromosphere vs Prominence models for Proms

#1

Post by Ben Cartwright SASS »

Does anyone have both the Quark Chromosphere and the Prominence models and if so how do they compare on Proms?

I have been using the chromosphere model and getting good results on the proms but am wondering if the prominence model would give me enough extra detail to make it worthwhile?

I usually use either my Lunt ED102 f/7 or my Skywatcher Evostar 120 f/7.5 and usually set the knob control on the Quark at either the 3 o'clock or 4 o'clock positions.

I was thinking of getting a prom model and then swapping them out while imaging rather than getting the Gemini as I haven't heard that many positive reviews about the Gemini. I will try some tests next week when it is "supposed" to be clear by doing a prom at 3 o'clock and then at 12 o'clock and 9 o'clock and see if I see any difference.

Has anyone used both?

I have not used the Prominence model. The few images I have seen from the Prominence model don't impress me enough to waste time and money with it.

The Chromosphere model has enough range in my opinion. I generally shoot proms at the 9 o'clock position with seemingly good results.

Being the laziest guy on the planet, switching Quarks during a shoot is something I'm not interested in doing. It's bad enough waiting for that darn green light after switching from 3 to 9 o'clock. LOL

Thank you John. That pretty much answers my question.

Long time no talk to, how are you doing, still killing it at poker?

The pandemic literally shut down poker. When the casinos first reopened, the tables only held six players and a dealer... I was still "spooked". I played on-line cash games for over a year. The casinos just got back to "business as usual" when the Delta variant put me back on-line.

I play six days a week, some days more than others. I'm actually doing better because there is a much smaller rake on-line and no dealer to tip.

Clear Skies

I am one of the Trustees at the Seagrave Observatory again. Sounds official but it means I get to cut the grass etc. Well actually in charge of the Meade 12 and 16" and the Clark 8".
We have been closed for 1 1/2 years now and they are trying to have a meeting this coming Saturday but I will attend via zoom since from what I can see the Delta is breaking out big time around here.

I have also realized that I am mainly solar imager as I love my sleep
