Fraz, I'll vote for the second one. ( my eyes are on the way out but there seems to be more contrast to me ).

I like Image B. I like the way you handled the upper/left quadrant.

Man! You really caught some nice detail around the spot, Fraz. There is a tiny bridge on the right side.
I took the liberty of expanding Image A (4x) and cropping it back down.
Very nicely captured, my friend.

Re: Tillibobs August Solar thread
It's really tough this, I love the contrast on image B but the detail is all in Image A. Perhaps blowing it up can give me both parts of what I want.
@Lowjiber Did you do anything to it other than the resize?

I don't know if you guys remember but I used to do solar challenges with data I collected so that we could share techniques and ideas. I'd like to do that again if there is enough interest. We could all benefit from different perspectives, as proven right here above.

@FRAZ, I expanded it (4x) with Topaz Gigapixel AI and cropped it to make sure I included the nice filament in the lower/right quadrant.
I then ran it through Topaz DeNoise AI using the "Clear" function.
Then, I threw it into
Lastly, I put your name on it and saved as a JPEG.
Here's my workflow... You'll notice that I tried some Color Balance on it, but deleted that because color destroyed much of the fine details. Clear Skies

I do remember that... Lots of fun! Since I'm not shooting anything until the temps get lower this summer, I'd love to "Play". Those challenges you used to run caused a lot of interest in the group.FRAZ wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 5:08 pm I don't know if you guys remember but I used to do solar challenges with data I collected so that we could share techniques and ideas. I think you should post your version of that sunspot in the images forum as a joint effort by both of us. I don't think I could reproduce that. Take the image courtesy bit off though so that i can steal it and post it on facebook.

THREAD NAME
Solarheads September Thread which is descriptive and direct. Are we all happy being Solarheads?
ON A SEPARATE NOTE:
I don't really like the idea that we as a group are rebellious, i think we should be seen as progressive and this might be something that we have to work on. Id like to understand where that comes from and kill that perception if we can.

Re: Tillibobs August Solar thread
I'm good with being considered a "solarhead".
I think the "rebellious" thing came from Gus on the old forum. He really hated Bill & Mike. Fortunately for everyone, his attitude did not carry over to this forum.

Re: Tillibobs August Solar thread
Funny how things all work out because I get on well with Gus and Mike but Bill seemed to have a problem with me for some reason I could never work out.
I would never hold it against Bill though because he had many talents that I still aspire to.

I think there was an issue over safety that those guys were just ahead of the curve and safety rightly came first.
We are all a bit more knowledgeable now though and well here we are.

Re: Tillibobs August Solar thread
Today's sky is really bad with the smoke from the fires in the west it is like looking through milk but I wanted to try my Skywatcher 120ED vs my Lunt ED102 on a prom.
I also did a CAk image with it, I can't get full disk as I can with the Lunt ED102, also there is some sort of step down inside the focuser about 1 1/2 inches inside the focuser tube so I can't push the CAk module all the way in and had to take the nose off the camera and the tube off the top of the CAk and screw the camera right to it. I will not use the 120 for CAk but rather either my SV80 or the Lunt ED102.
Anyhow, I am not sure if I forgot to stop using flats or was it the atmosphere, but there is mottling in the sky around the sun. Also I have done much better with the surface on the ED102 in the past and other captures. But this shows a bit of the difference, the proms look better on the 120 but that may be my esposure, I eyeball them all the time.
