Cliff, I threw together a little tutorial last year to help folks with basic techniques using two images (surface & proms) in Photoshop. I don't know if you've seen it, so will attach it below.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Fraz, appreciate the comments.

Good activity today but I have a lot of clouds , Sunspots ramping up it seems.
This is good for my other hobby Amateur Radio (Ham)

So my image of the month for August was by Cliff, he had just started and gave us this.
It wasn't the cleanest or most spectacular but it was the biggest single leap forward.
Great example of how a quark can give you a massive leap, Cliff will just need a year or so with Lowjiber to make it a masterpiece.

Combo Quark 4X Powermate and Tak 76DS.

Getting the hang of the Quark , my USB battery pack kept switching off so now have a better solution.

Uncoloured and barely processed.

Best processing job of August for me is a no-brainer.
Stunning work John.

I took the liberty of expanding Image A (4x) and cropping it back down.

Very nicely captured, my friend.

Brilliant Calcium shot this month. Can't be beaten.

I found that the Flat Cap doesn't work with a full disk image at least for me. Too much space around it I think. I will go back to no flats on CAk or full disk images

Best presentation this month was here, it just looked like a lot of work for our benefit. Thanks.

Ben Cartwright SASS wrote: Fri Jul 23, 2021 2:15 pm Just looked on Gong (now Gong2) to see if there is any activity on the sun. Of course I often compare what is going on to images I have already captured and say to myself, well I have a better image than that so I may not go out.
There is an interesting filiment around and active region with some proms behind it, so while I feel lazy I think I will do a quick imaging run as it is nice out and about 74F I also want to practice more with my Daystar Flat Cap, I don't see that much difference with the proms but it makes the surface more even. I will use my 174mm-cool but probably won't plug it in but may do it.

How do people put in images? I use IMGUR.com as I don't see any other way to insert an image except with a 3rd party hosting site OOPS JUST DRAGGED AND DROPPED AND IT DID IT TWICE

So my member of the month this month has got to be John (Lowjiber) Although I think Jeff has given us more and great quality, he has done so with material at hand, albeit with his own difficulties. John has had no sky and no personal motivator other than a desire to push and help others.

A real star.

And to big John up some more, let's not forget the tuition given for free in AP Processing Challenge No 8 where many of us had our first go of processing solar data.

Difficult to categorise this one, so I'll just say Mark!

We are a family here in SOLARHEADS and nothing is more comfortable than those reports. They are in the Astrophotography forum but very much a part of the community here.
Post them here too Mark. @Thefatkitty

OK, here's what I can do. I'm a male, older than most dirt, who studied astronomy at university in the 1960s and took my graduate degree in the 1970s in astrophysics. My thesis work was on hot dense nuclear matter, neutron star structure, and supernovae. I started observing with my first telescope in 1955. Built my own scope after coming down with aperture fever. At university I was a frequent night assistant doing mostly spectroscopy and also H-alpha line profiles with a Fabry-Perot scanning spectrophotometer built by the grad student I was assisting. On transitioning to grad school, I switched from observation to theory but maintained amateur observing as a hobby. My strongest competencies are fluid dynamics, plasma physics, electrodynamics, and general relativity. I keep up with developments in GR.

I've enjoyed looking at solar imagery since the late 1950s. The Sun is an exciting plasma physics lab!

In the 1980s I went to work in industry where I remained until the early 2000s when I started consulting for NASA and DoD technology acquisition efforts. I quasi retired about 4-5 years ago.

I'm not giving out my identity IRL for two reasons:
1) a few attempts to hijack finances have made me pretty careful
2) I need to keep anonymous so I can stay clear of overt conflicts if I do consulting on space missions or satellites again

That's the extent to which I can satisfy curiosity about my bio. I hope that suffices.
