An interesting connection I have to this event. Back in 2018 I had a chance to tour the Dunsink Observatory in the townland of Dunsink, Ireland. I was in Dublin for a business trip and I made contact with the local astronomy club and was invited as a traveling guest to their monthly meeting. Afterwards, one of the members mentioned he was going to the Dunsink observatory the following afternoon and invited my wife and me along for a personal tour. I was introduced to the observatory director and given a personal tour of the facility including the massive 12" refractor in the south observatory.
While walking through the main building they had a small exhibit on display that included one of the actual mirrors that was used on this 1919 mission to South America for the eclipse.

This place was absolutely gorgeous and I've never met such incredibly welcoming and nice people as I did on this trip.

This last image from inside the observatory looks a bit distorted because it's a stitch of 2 or 3 images in order to show the entire scope.

Thank you for sharing this interesting story! I have read the story about the efforts to take pictures of an eclipse to validate Einstein's Theory, with all the drama and tension, but what you have shared really brings it, and some of the little details, to life. :)

Many small scopes, plus a Lightbridge 12, LX 70-8R,6R,6M
Many eyepieces, just not really expensive ones.
