I have been in contact with him, and he is building a white-light rig for me... With an 80ft focal length.:)

Very interesting link John , if I can build it I am interested ! I thought he was building a W/L scope until the end , it had me wondering how he was going to use the laser for a solar target ....
Solar scopes (Coronado Ha) 60mm double stack , 90mm double stack , 150mm single stack .
W/L scope Williams Optic Megrez 110mm / Lunt herschel wedge .

That looks like a really fun project. I am not impressed with the views at the end of the video though, they appear to be worse than what you can get from a supermarket telescope.

One possibility is that there are two viewports each of which cause diffraction according to Rayleigh's criterion. I have not done the math but I suspect the effect is multiplicative (a blurry view of a blurry view). The only way to avoid it is to have a flat mirror that is large enough so every view from the scope does not reach the edge of the flat.

Another possibility is that the optical flat is too thin and flexes. I have played around with a first surface mirror for my binos and it just wasn't accurate enough as the magnification goes up. An optical flat sounds better than a first surface mirror but it still must be supported well enough to remain flat.

AI am curious what you end up with but keep in mind that as you crank up the magnification by a long focal length you also crank up the angular diffraction effects.
