easy to transport, very well built better than pst.
will be very practical soon with the resurgence of the sun.
I have a 60ha of lunt,
if I had to buy myself a solar telescope the 40 would be my choice today.

I see the PST is available, that might be an option.

Re: Lunt 40mm, thoughts?
"The problem is I only do visual" This is not a problem , the problem is that visual quite often leads to imaging the good news is that neither is really a problem . The Lunt 40 and the PST are both good quality scopes , they are quite different in construction . The Lunt has a removable blocking filter , this means that you can purchase a larger one to increase the field of view if you wish . The PST has a fixed blocking filter that can not easily be increased in size so the field of view can not be increased . The Lunt scope uses a 40mm external etalon and determines the aperture , 40mm . The PST is also a 40mm scope except it uses an internal etalon that is tuned to operate in an F/ 10 F/ R . I will not go into details but will say that there are safe and reliable methods to use PST etalons in larger aperture F/ 10 frac's . These methods are often referred to as "PST mods" , I have 2 modded PST's that I have used for my imaging for years without issue .
I am not suggesting you go this route , just wanted you to be aware of the differences . The PST can offer a path to a largeraperture that the lunt 40 can not .If you get aperture fever a PST mod is much less expensive then a 100mm Ha solar scope.
If you are getting anxious B&H has PST's in stock Hope this was helpful

Re: Lunt 40mm, thoughts?
The PST was not designed for imaging, however there is a simple inexpensive way around that by using the lens from a Barlow.

Re: Lunt 40mm, thoughts?
Hi,I have ofthen troubles to get full disk fews with the pst visually. ( due to the small sweet spot?) I have heard that the Lunt 35 had a much bigger sweetspot. Do you think the Lunt 40 is a good alternative to get better full-disk? Thanks!

Re: Lunt 40mm, thoughts?
Hi , I have do some research and I think this are the benefits from the Lunt 40 over the PST. 1 The image on the Lunt is brighter and the sun color and edge detail looks more exiting . 2 the Lunt will let you see a little more detail and surface grandulation.4 Lunt has a bigger sweet spot for better full-disk. 3 the Lunt has an 3D effect on filaproms . 4 better end more exiting focuser And 6 mm BF. PST is made in Mexico . Lunt in USA. Lunt has better costumer service and there is less variation in quality in their scopes . Please correct me if I am wrong.thanks!

Re: Lunt 40mm, thoughts?
It's a kind of thought or test what people with knowledge of both scopes might think, and give their opinion. Only people's with enough knowledge of both scopes can answer this. ( if necessary , ignore the variation of the scopes) thanks. Yes, I love my pst but if the Lunt 40 Sems to be much better, I will just order a second one. If not, I still may order one and have two different solar scopes! " the two rivals in history".
