Hi All, I am selling all my dep sky bits it is to heavy for me now, I need it to be remote controlled, first thought is a Lunt 50mm/B600 pressure tuned, Lunt pcusb pressure controller, ZWO ASI 120 MONO CCD , Moonlite focuser as I have Lakeside motor bits, or do I go Lunt 60mm/B600 pressure tuned, ZWO ASI 178 MONO CCD and no pcusb controller, all help will be appreciated.

Re: NEW H-ALFER SCOPE
I have Lunt 60 B1200 - PCUSB controller - Pegasus Ultimate and a Pegasus focuscube - It works.... Cube was a bit of a fiddle as the Lunt60's focuser doesn't have a flat base - but it was doable.
I have Lakeside, but on my 102 WOptics, controlled through the Ultimate -
You're in the same ballpark as I am.

p.s. The Lunt controller is an expensive lead weight - really nothing more than a jazzed up car-tyre pump with readout....

Re: NEW H-ALFER SCOPE
Get the Lunt60 PT with a B1200 Blocking Filter. Why, you ask? Because, sooner or later you are going to want to shoot images... a B600 just won't cut it.
I use an ASI174MM-cooled cam. I know a couple of folks who use the 178 and have never heard any complaints from them.

Re: NEW H-ALFER SCOPE
Even though my gear is all Coronado based I would have to go with the above Lunt 60 PT / B1200 recommendations . Even if you are not imaging right away you will appreciate the larger field that the bigger blocking filter will offer . This is a good time to be getting into solar , you will be able to observe the activity as it ramps up again .

Re: NEW H-ALFER SCOPE
Hi John. Excellent advice. I remember when the Lunt 50 came out, the focuser was so bad that you wrote an upgrade article on the old AF forum saying how can such a beautiful instrument for the money come with such a lousy focuser (helical). I later changed my plans to the Lunt 60 and B1200, but they were so busy with quality control issues and flying the 50's off the shelf and out the door, the Lunt 60's were "back ordered", "out of stock", or "special order". After a year of waiting, I got my deposit back, so I still don't have one, but I still want one. Also, what ever happened to our mutual friend TILLIBOBS (Keith), who is also a great solar imager? Also, here is a heads up from Raben Systems. AR 2773 is now quite visible. Have at it John, and the very best of regards.

Re: NEW H-ALFER SCOPE
Keith and I exchange emails about once a month. He's doing well, despite a somewhat slow recovery from an illness. Like the rest of us, he is anxiously awaiting the new solar cycle.
He was my mentor from the very beginning of my solar observing/imaging trek... He had an unruly student to say the least.

Re: NEW H-ALFER SCOPE
You've confused me by opening a new thread!
That's a tilt etalon model - it essentially does the same job, but I'm not too sure how easy that would be to remote control ( which is what I thought was in your original spec ? )

Re: NEW H-ALFER SCOPE
Hello Peter
I have added remote tuning to "tilt tuned" Coronado scopes and I have seen it done with Lunt scopes as well . Not too difficult if you are handy , you said you had some bits from another focuser . I made mine from a Moonlite motor and controller .

MarkT gave you fairly sound advice, given that Sol is now edging towards the horizon - give yourself the Winter to save up for the PT version?
