This looks like a decent entry level introduction to Solar viewing similar to the Coronado PST which I believe was developed by " Lunt ? " prior to being bought out by Meade.

Ah - so that’s not an issue, so the base Lunt 40 could have a DSLR and image - That’s interesting. Are they under cutting The PST? Or does it have advantages?
Cheers,

Tony.

Coronado was established by David Lunt, just before or just after his death his son Andrew founded Lunt Solar.

An interesting beginner offering at the base price though.
I wonder if it will stay there or be put closer to the price of a PST?

It would have been nice to see some actual images taken with it instead of from other telescopes.

Okay - newb solar question - what's the difference between the Blocking Filters?

And if I am correct, this would be for viewing flares, etc. and NOT sunspots? Maybe?

The size of the blocking filter will determine the size of the image circle you can see overall. A bit like AFOV.
In Ha you can view surface granulation, magnetic lines, loops, prominence and sunspots to a certain degree.
The spots will appear as darker regions but will not have any of the finer detail you can see in white light viewing.

Cool - thank you! That helps.

I may have to add this to my list of things.

Considering the price of the original Lunt 35mm was almost the same price as the Coronado PST ($850+), I am kind of suspecting this may be an introductory price.
A 40mm Ha telescope for $300USD is unheard of.

A 40mm Ha telescope for $300USD is unheard of.
You must read this ad carefully , the $299 price is the 50% deposit if you order one with the 5mm blocking filter so you are looking at more like $600 up to $899 if you order it with the 12mm B/F . It differs from the PST by using an external etalon , this might limit any double stacking options that the PST has . Nice that works with the standard Lunt blocking filters , it will be less $ that the 50 mm but also less aperture . You only get get you pay for and and bargains are few in the Ha solar game .
Solar scopes (Coronado Ha) 60mm double stack , 90mm double stack , 150mm single stack .
W/L scope Williams Optic Megrez 110mm / Lunt herschel wedge .
Night scope Celestron 9.25 XLT
Mounts HEQ6 , HEQ5 , Losmandy G8

Still at $600USD it is cheaper than the Coronado PST and I think in the long term I wopuld still go with the Coronado.
The SolarMax III are some very nice kit.

I suppose it's a matter of which brand you prefer. I've had various Coronado and Lunt models over the years and feel that Lunt has the edge over Coronado.
