Something New...to me.

#1

Post by Don Quixote »

While I was out and about today I stopped by to visit my friend Henry.

By the time I left he had gifted me another telescope.
I am not sure of the Model, but it is an older 10 inch Meade SCT.

I need to put a dovetail on this one.

Looking forward to a first light.

Yes. I have more here than is convenient to handle...something will come along. :-)

Plus...I will just overload the lxd75, balance it the best I can and make do for some lazy visual star hops.
My friend has three 10 inch cats...well, now he only has two.

The image is Henry last year behind his imaging rig.
We have known each other a very, very long time.

A question if I may.
In this image you will see a hole in the back of the OTA next to the focuser.
My 8 inch meade does not have this hole.
Does anyone have an idea what this hole is used for ?

Thank you.

Mark, I think it is where a bolt was/can be threaded to immobilize the mirror for transport/shipping. I think I would cover it or make a small plug to insert to keep dust out.

My New micro CrayfordFocuser came today for the SCT tubes. :-)

This is a beautiful piece of kit. Silky smooth. Smooth rotating adjustment for camera orientation, or visual diagonal orientation. 1.25 or 2 inch EP.
The fitment on this item is excellent. There is not one sloppy joint.
I can hardly wait to mount this baby !

I have mounted it on the 10 inch tube. It adds several lbs to the rear end.
The combine of the two focusers is quite interesting. The course focus on the new parts is actually quite a reduction from the factory focus knob on the tube and when I use the micro knob on the new parts the precision is even greater it seems.

New balancing issues always come with new gear.

This might be a Telescope Tale to end all tales but someone wants to buy me this. https://www.astronomics.com/celestron-c ... 12055.html The funny thing is they asked where I get my scopes and I said Astronomics and within a few minutes they came back with what I posted. I notified Astronomics and let them know someone might be ordering me a telescope. I am besides myself with wonder and yet totally skeptical at the same time. I will not look a gift horse in the mouth but if this ends up true I will be totally incredulous and blown away as I did not do much for the person in question, just was a security officer for her tour bus back in January. Hoax or not? I certainly hope it is no hoax. Will keep you all posted on this.
