he isn't into astronomy, this was a xmas gift that he coudn't get working due to low knowledge of astromomy .i already have a large range of toys but more the merrier .
hmm.. moon mosiac ? guide scope ? maybe a barlow deep sky for targets like the homunculus cloud in catrina or maybe image the iss. btw i apreciat if anyone can exlain to me why the front small secondary looks like a mirror when viewing the front ,it's my first maksutov scope.

Nice score! Maks use a silver "dot" / "spot" on the corrector plate instead of a secondary mirror like an SCT. That's why they're collimated by moving the primary in back.

The silver spot is because its a Gregory Maksutov design. A Rumak Maksutov with have a separate secondary like an SCT. Generally Gregory Maksutovs are slower in order to enable the trick of having the corrector plate double as the secondary,

so a maksutov secondary is just a small section of coated aluminized spot on the inside of the corrector plate rather then a coated secondary mirror like an sct ?

ok, parabolic, typicaly scopes at f4, f5, and a little flat on the edges ,spherical at longer focal lengths more round figure . ok aspherical, hah, what does that look like ??

No. All the surfaces in a Gregory Maksutov are spherical. The primary is spherical. The corrector compensates for coma and the plate has two surfaces, both spherical but with very slightly different radii of curvature.

hmm, do have any good links of information to provid? i'm having some trouble identifying the diference bewten an sct and a maksutov . there is an maksutov with a seconday that's collimaitible ?

Yes there is. It's a Rutten Maksutov or Rumak. They give refractor like performance. I love my Intes MK66 which is a Rumak.
