Comet Atlas c/2019 Y-4 on March 25th

Hey all,

I took some more imaging of Comet Atlas. It was cloudy up until 1am or so. Then mostly clear and was able to get a couple of hours in. I used SGPro then DSS in comet mode. From there I took two stacks from comet mode. Option 1 and Option 2. Option 1 makes the stars stationary and leaves a light blob where the comit traveled. And Option 2 Isolates the comet and makes the Stars trail. "And trail they do and a pain in a but to clean!" But I was able to clean up the star trails in PScc and leave the comet in tact with a dark neutral backround. It only took about 4 hours or so of tweaking:)

I then Merged the two layers together and put them in Screen Mode and came up with the final Image. I then tweaked that a little bit. Thx for looking

Thanks all,

The comet mode is pretty neat, It has 3 stacking option. The first 2 are the ones I used as I did not have any luck with the 3rd option which Freezes the stars and also freezes the comet. I found that it froze the comet (but not as good as isolating the comet as Option 2) but The Stars still needed to be cleaned up a bit. You will see trails and such when stretched.

Now I used it with a mono cam and was stacking with 3 color fitlers and, so maybe a color cam would make the 3rd option work better for it.

Bellow are some examples of the options I did and I then combined them to an RGB Layer.

Comet with option 2 no color adjustment and not much stretching


Comet with corrected color adjustments and balancing with Option 2


Comet with Option 3 Stretched and color adjusted and balancing


Comet with Option 1 checked "Star freeze" DSS just concentrates on the Star backround and the comet turns out to be a blurred image that is pretty faint compared to the above


Option 1 with stretching. This gives you the backround stars and you can see the comet blurred.
