Comet C/2017 T2 PanSTARRS

#1

Post by Graeme1858 »

The January Sky at Night Magazine has a thing on the Comet C/2017 T2 PanSTARRS and Perseus double cluster conjunction photo opportunity. This happens 25th to 31st January when the comet is expected to be at magnitude 10.7.

This is what Stellarium tells me the scene will look like for me with my Canon 600D on the end of my 80mm guide scope:

Image

Might be worth a try if the sky is clear!

Regards

Graeme

You're welcome.

Also, I'd say I would be ok with the tasks in your signature Heinlein quote, all except the conn a ship, I've never done that, oh and maybe the last one!

:lol:Well, the biggest "ship" I've ever conned was 30 feet of pontoon boat. And the last one I hope to delay too.

Sounds like fun.

Anybody know the angular velocity in arcseconds it will travel in an hour? The last comet I tried to image was moving so fast that from frame to frame DSS had a very difficult time stacking the image showing the comet.

Cheers,
JT

Right now it's moving about 98 arc sec per hour. Pretty slow.

Stellarium reports that equates to 30km/s increasing to 33km/s in May at perihelion.
