Neptune - October 18, 2021

Ever wonder why you never see images of Neptune (or Uranus) from amateur hobbyists? This image gives some clue, I think. The angular size is so small (2.35" arcseconds) that there is very little detail to be had. However, I wanted to give it a try.

I tried imaging Neptune at a star party last Saturday with my Skyris planetary imager. This was a total failure as the planet was too dim at magnitude 7.83, and so it was a total failure. So, I tried again last night from my backyard with the Revolution Imager - this time set for Deep Sky viewing/imaging. Here is the result.

A great catch, and a nice image!

I saw it years ago, without go-to in my 127mak. It was adjacent to something so it was easy, would love to catch it again

Hi Greg. Your persistence paid off with this Neptune image. I love the sharp disc and the light pastel color of the planet. Thanks for taking the time to put this up on here Greg, as Neptune is a planet capture that we don't see too often on here.
