Jupiter Second Attempt

#1

Post by Kerry C. »

This is my second attempt at planetary imaging. Its much better than my first try but there is still much to be learned. For the life of me I can not figure out how to get a color image. I am guessing it's something simple that I am either checking or not checking in one of the programs.
Anyway this is a 3 minute video captured with a QHY5iii462C, a 8" SCT, and 2x Barlow, using SharpCap Pro, processed in AutoStakkert using 12% best images and RegiStax. This image was taken last night, 9-11-21.
Any suggestions as to what I am missing making it color are welcomed...
Thanks for looking,
Kerry

It's a secret! :D

Can you say what file format you saved your video in, what Colour setting you used in Registax, what format you exported in and if you used any post processing, PS, Gimp etc?

Great monochrome though. Nice catch with the moon shadow transit. There's another one on the 17th, details on the Forum Portal Events Calendar.

Graeme

Hi Kerry. A superb Jupiter image here. Nice contrast, belting, GRS, and the moon transit. This is great work Kerry and next to get the file to work in color. Thanks for sharing this with us Kerry, and hope to see more of your captures again soon.

Graeme, It is saved in the .ser format from SharpCap. Originally in AutoStakkert I have tried it in both the Auto detect color format and using forced RGGB, both give me the same results. I see only one option for RegiStax, it has Color checked. I have not used any other post processing applications.
Thanks,
Kerry

Let me get off my phone and go over to my laptop. But I believe in SharpCap you have to select De-Bayer in the settings.

Give me a few to go double-check that.

So I think I have found the problem. I have been using the IR850 filter that came with the QHY camera. I'm told I need to be using the IR/Cut filter instead. I am such a goof...pay attention to details Kerry!

Kerry, I have to say I really like the B&W even though it wasn't your intent. So well done!
