ISS Flyby with July 31st

#1

Post by TheButcher »

Hey All,

Here is the ISS that I took a few days back. The max alt was 57 Degrees/-4.3mag and I think I got it around 50-55ish degrees. I used my Apertura AD12, ZWO 174mm and the Telvue "Big Barlow" and had it set back about 2 inches so it would be about 2.5-3x. I used Firecaptre and had an exposure time of 27.5 and I set the gain to 350. I popped it in PIPP and sorted the frames and such then Used Autostackkert to stack them. I then went in to Registax for Wavlets then off to Photoshop and now it is here :)

Thanks for Looking :)

Hello Brian. Wow, another great ISS flyby closeup. I only use naked eye or binoculars, as it moves so fast, that I don't think I could catch it with a telescope to image. Thanks for putting this up on here for us to enjoy Brian, and looking forward to viewing more of your fantastic work soon.

Thanks All :)

Also if anyone is interested, the key to I find works best is to have a Raci Rectile illuminated finder and make sure it is locked on the center or near it. And unfortunately, that is the hardest part for me. Especially when the ISS comes by with after sun is down. Also I lock the focuser the night before if there is an earlier run. I use my Telrad to located it close enough so that it is in the finder, then just track it with my Dob.

Also a good tip is to practice the motion that you know the directions before the flyby, especially its highest point. :)
Hope that helps.

I also was able to do it with an EQ mount with clutches, but I can't now with my CEM70 since it has locking knobs. And the other alternative is to use your scope like a bazooka, but still use the luminated RACI finderscope. If anyone is interested and lastly a high frame rate helps out tremendously.

Thanks Lady, :)

I did a year or so about 5 times, but no response, but will get in the habit of sending more until they get sick of my emails lol. I am hoping to catch the ISS with some more activity of some sort and more Magnification and a 70 Degree plus altitude so I can do a cool long animation. Like the Arm going out or some Astronauts out there since there should be a lot of activity and more travel in these upcoming times on the ISS. :)
