The Belly of the ISS with Dragon attached (Jan 18th)

Post by TheButcher »

Hey all.

Here is the underside of the ISS I took last night. It was a 73 Degree pass at 6:50 and then faded out at 73 degrees. If it was earlier, I would of had it at 88-89 Degrees but due to the sun illuminated it, it faded before it could fly nearly directly over me. The seeing was below average as it was sleeting right before and the winds were about 10mph+ So I used my 1.5x Barlow and raised it out a bit to get more Magnification. So it is probably about 1.7x

I took about 20,000 frames using my 290mm and about 2,000 had images of it. (This was an easy one to follow) because I just had to deal with the ALT of my Dob. So I adjusted my Alt bearings on my Z8 so it was bottom Heavy so I could gently let it slide up and follow it using my Apertura RACI 10x50. Tonight I got a 50 degree with a turn on the Meridian so it will be much tougher as I have to move the Dob's ALT and AZ.

I used Fire Capture then used PIP to process and center, Then AS3 to stack 70% of about 100 frames. Then Registax for Wavlets then to PScc
Notice THe Space X Dragon attached to it to the left.

Here is what I used:
Zhumell Z* 8"
ZWO 290mm
ZWO Red Filter
Antares 1.5x Barlow
Apertura 10x50 RACI w/ illuminated Recticle (Very important to use an illuminated RACI)
Telrad (To use for spotting it first) I placed my Telrad right Near my RACI so both are easily accessible

FC stats
Duration=126.461s

Thanks all :)

Also here is an AVI video I uploaded from PIPP of all the frames captured at 17FPS. It looks a bit choppy and the first half is kind of horrible with the conditions but gets clearer as it climbed higher.
