I went out last night to Farren Hill road with my son to see the comet. He saw it first, then we caught it in the 20x80 binos. Here are some pictures taken with the Fuji X-a1 6400 ISO 20 sec,

I noticed on Google Maps that Farren Hill road goes quite a ways from Santa Barbara. Did you have to drive far along it to take your pictures?

No, I live in between Santa Barbara and Goleta so it's just a 10 minute drive. I was amazed at how clear the Milky Way was. Maybe I'll try that spot more often if I can find a decent pull out on that narrow road.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments! It was a quick and fun event. It was my son's idea. I did not need much convincing to go along of course.

Many locals had the same idea of going to that small country road. When you think you have a clever idea it turns out you're not the only one. Just like watching SpaceX launch and land at Vandenberg from Old San Marcos Road last year, the road was packed with locals too.

I like doing nightscapes, made several trips to the Sierras for nice and clear settings.
